On Oct. 5, 2006 the Alameda County board of supervisors created a task force on creeks, concentrating on the San Lorenzo Creek watershed. The creation of the task force follows recent enactment of a moratorium on certain types of creekside development in the watershed. The early work of the task force is expected to focus on regulation of development on creekside parcels.
By focusing on the San Lorenzo Creek Watershed the task force will be able to pay particular attention to waterways that are most affected by an urban environment.
The task force could meet as early as January 2007, and is expected to meet for at least two years. It would hold regular meetings and would report to the Unincorporated Area Services Committee of the board of supervisors. The task force will begin with a series of meetings to decide how to proceed and establish priorities for identified issues. These decisions will be presented to the board of supervisors for approval.
Membership
The task force will have 15 members, selected by the three supervisors whose districts embrace the San Lorenzo watershed: Nate Miley, Alice Lai-Bitker, and Gail Steele. Members must reside in one of the supervisoral districts (link is to a map of the districts). The selection will aim for broad-based representation, reflecting the entire watershed domain and a variety of viewpoints.

Applications for membership are due Nov. 15, 2006. Get the application (RTF file). In marking categories for which you qualify, make sure you check "community-based watershed organizations" if you are a supporter of Friends of San Lorenzo Creek. The members of the task force were appointed by the board of supervisors on March 27, 2007. The inaugural meeting of the task force is June 19 (see Announcements).
